Abstract | ||||
Inthisstudy,uponexposureoflaboratoryEgyptianB.alexandrinaandB.glabratasnailsto itshomologusstrainofS.mansoni,twodifferentphenotypestrains"susceptibleandresistant" weredistinguished.Theaimofthisstudyistoinvestigatethebiologicaldifferencesbetween thetwotypesofBiomphalariasnailseithersusceptibleorresistantatdifferentages.The investigatedparametersincludedmortality,survival,percentageofsusceptibility/resistanceto parasiticinfectionandfecundity.Theresultsofthepreliminaryexposureexperimentrevealed thatparentalsnailstockwasnotcompletelysusceptibleandtendtobepartiallyrefractoryto infection.Theresultsalsoshowedastrongassociationbetweenthelevelsofeggproduction andsusceptibilitytoparasiteinfection.Wherebreedingexperimentrevealedthat,totalegg number,E/MandEMvaluesproducedbyresistantphenotypeofbothsnailspeciesweremore thanthoseproducedbysusceptibleprogenysnails.Also,itwasnoticedthat,eggproductionis associatedinverselyproportionwithsnailage. | ||||
