Abstract
Over the past years, the world has witnessed many problems resulting from the energy crisis and the use of non-renewable resources. Since the construction sector is the largest energy consumer in the world, many countries have developed plans and strategies aimed at rationalizing energy consumption in residential communities and encouraging the use of renewable energy. One of the modern trends that aim to achieve sustainability and energy efficiency in residential communities is the trend towards establishing self-sufficient residential communities (zero energy). The research aims to identify the approaches to environmental design, different types of energies, and the design of zero-energy residential communities by presenting and analyzing various global initiatives and programs. The research then extracted some criteria and evaluated the residential community in Egypt and reached some results and recommendations until it becomes a self-sufficient residential community dependent on clean energy.
خلال السنين الماضيه شهد العالم الكثير من المشاكل الناتجه عن أزمة الطاقة واستخدام الموارد الغير متجدده, نظرا أن قطاع البناء هو الأكثر استهلاكا للطاقة عالميا , فقد توجه العديد من البلدان إلي وضع خطط واستراتيجيات تهدف إلي ترشيد استهلاك الطاقة في المجتمعات السكنيه والتشجيع علي استخدام الطاقة المتجدده . أحد الاتجاهات الحديثة التي تهدف إلي تحقيق الإستدامه وكفاءة الطاقة في المجتمعات السكنية هو الإتجاه نحو إنشاء المجتمعات السكنية المكتفية ذاتيا ( صفرية الطاقة ) , حيث يهدف البحث إلي التعرف علي مداخل التصميم البيئي ,أنواع الطاقات المختلفة و تصميم المجتمعات السكنية صفرية الطاقة وذلك عن طريق العرض والتحليل للمبادرات والبرامج العالمية المختلفه, ومن ثم استخلص البحث  بعض المعايير وتقييم المجتمع السكني في مصر والوصول لبعض النتائج والتوصيات حتي يصبح مجتمع سكني مكتفي ذاتيا معتمد علي الطاقة النظيفة .
