Abstract | ||||
Cultural milieu has a considerable influence on shaping man's identity which is constituted by various discourses that are circulating in a certain culture. This research tries to analyse Alice Walker's novel: Now is the Time to Open Your Heart to demonstrate how Walker's novel shaped and was shaped by the discourses that were circulating in the culture in which Alice Walker has lived and the novel was produced. The main critical theory which will be used to analyse Alice Walker'snovel is cultural criticism which is considered a method of interpreting a certain culture. In addition, feminist criticism and African American criticism which could be considered examples of cultural criticism as all these theories are used to interpret the novel by exploring some aspects of American culture. | ||||
