Abstract | ||||
Objectives: To assess the impact of using two types of cavity disinfectants on dentin margin sealing of resinous and non-resinous self-adhesive restorative materials. Materials and Methods: Standardized box-form Class V cavities were prepared on the buccal surfaces of 72 sound premolars. The teeth were divided into three groups (n=24) according to dentin pretreatment method; no pretreatment, 2% Doxycycline pretreatment and 2% Chlorhexidine pretreatment Each group was subdivided into two subgroups (n=12) according to restorative material used; non-resinous Glass ionomer restorative material and self-adhesive resin composite. After artificial aging through thermocycling in water baths at 5°C and 55°C, with a dwell time of 30 seconds in each bath and a transfer time of 15 seconds, the teeth were soaked in methylene blue dye for 24 h. The dye leakage was examined under stereomicroscope at X40 magnification. Results: No significant differences in the microleakage score median were found between group I, II and group III (P> 0.05) for both restorative materials used. However, there was a significant difference between the two subgroups A & B (P<0.05) for CHX pretreated cavities where Glass ionomer restored specimens showed lesser degree of dye-leakage compared to self-adhesive composite restored specimens. Conclusion: The current study's findings indicate that using of cavity disinfectants has no effect on gingival marginal seal of both resinous and non-resinous restorative materials. | ||||
