Abstract | ||||
Data on open and closed birth intervals compiled from the 1980 Egyptian Fertility Survey (EFS) were used to estimate instantaneous parity progression ratios of the population which can be considered as a period measure. A high level of estimated values indicates a high level of fertility currently prevailing among Egyptian women and a continuation of childbearing for a longer period. As expected, rural women progress to higher parities much faster than urban women. Since the EFS data set contains detailed micro-level information, it was possible to analyze mother's age at last birth for women with completed fertility--open as well as closed intervals and the correlation among these intervals. | ||||
