Abstract | ||||
In some of his dramatic works, Mohamed Enani (1939 – 2023), translator, poet, and dramatist explores life in former Egyptian eras and discovers remarkable parallels between historical eras and present-time concerns and dilemmas. Enani possesses a a keen focus on introducing Arab stage techniques and local cultural concepts parallel to Western theatre, He ably showcases his creative genius and brings a unique blend of artistic traditions to the forefront. As a distinguished professor of English literature, Enani skillfully weaves elements from the works of the Bard into his productions, further enriching the theatrical experience for his audiences. The paper offers a close reading of three of his full-length plays: Al Ghirbān [The Crows] (1986), Jasūs fī Qaṣr Al Sultān [A Spy in the Sultan's Palace] (1990), Al Darwīsh wa Al Ghāziya [The Dervish and the Dancer] (1994), and a short one-act play: "Qiṣat Manzil," Ḥalawit Yūnis [The Story of a House] (1993). | ||||
