Abstract | ||
A lot of efforts have focused on eliminating the annual cost lost in random maintenance decisions by applying the Pavement Maintenance Management System (PMMS). The PMMS is a systematic approach for achieving effective management of maintenance decision selection. This study aims to clarify the extent of the difference between PMMS and the traditional aspect of maintenance decision-making. Therefore, a visual inspection survey was conducted for a length of 8.25 km of the Cairo-Aswan Agriculture Highway, Minia City, Egypt. Data was collected from one branch that was divided into two sections, 1 and 2 in right and left directions respectively. A total of 41 samples were surveyed per section, which was stored in a database file using GIS software. The PCI was calculated to determine whether maintenance or rehabilitation (M & R) decisions should be applied in sections one and two. The appropriate M & R for section 1 was "Thin Overlay without Milling," and for section 2 was "Milling and Overlay." These results were different than the decision taken by the responsible authorities, as they decided to do Milling and Overlay for the two sections. | ||
