| Abstract | ||
| This study highlights some grammatical patterns in their association with some specific lexical items, mainly verbs, with the end-result of expressing the concept of attacking someone. These patterns are listed in Francis et al., (1996, p.616) Collins Cobuild Grammar Pattrens 1: Verbs. Moreover, the semantic traits characterizing such colligations of verbs and patterns are elicited and manifested. In other words, the concept of attacking someone or causing harm is discussed and analyzed from a pattern approach perspective in an attempt to relate its semantic phase to the syntactic patterns in which it appears. Data of the study is corpus-based. Results show that different patterns, sometime encompassing the same lexical verbs, convey various semantic notions | ||
