Abstract | ||||
Purpose: To investigate the effect of axial length and spherical equivalent on the peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and ganglion cell complex (GCC). Methods: fourty-four subjects were included. Peripapillary RNFL thickness in four sectors (superior, nasal, inferior, and temporal quadrants) and GCC thickness were determined by OCT, axial length and spherical equivalent also measured and correlations of the main outcomes were analyzed. Results: Negative correlations were found between the peripapillary RNFL thickness and axial length (AL) at superior (r=-0.59 P=0001) and inferior (r=-0.39, P<0 001) quadrants. There was a significant positive correlation with spherical equivalent (SE) at the corresponding quadrants (r=0.56, P<0 001 and r=0.42, P<0 001; resp.). Conclusions: there is significant negative correlation between axial length and RNFL measurement | ||||
