Abstract | ||||
Background: Distal tibial fractures accounts for nearly 37.8% of all tibial injuries. Treatment of distal tibial fractures is challenging because of its subcutaneous location. Aim of the Work: To compare fixation of distal tibial fractures by ILN vs. distal tibial locked plate with MIPO. Patients and Methods: This study was done at Benha University Hospital, during the period from January 2022 to December 2022 (6months). A total of 40 patients were recruited for this study to compare ILN vs.distal tibial locked plate with MIPO in fixation of distal tibial fractures. Patients were assessed clinically using Olerud and Molander score and radiologically at 6months. Results: Age range of patients was 20-57yr. common mode of trauma in both groups is road traffic accident. fibular fracture was present in 14 (70%) participants in group 1 and 18 (90%) patients in group 2. Difference between 2 groups regarding demographic data,AO classification, duration of surgery is not significant. The average time for union 13.45 weeks (range, 12-16 weeks) in group 1 and 18.1 weeks (range,12-28 weeks), malunion was found in 20% of patients in group 1 and 20% of patients in group 2. The overall results were comparable and most patients were satisfied with the results. Conclusion: Both techniques can provide effective treatment and fixation for closed extra articular fractures. ILN showed lower infection rate and faster time to healing but with more mal-alignment reduction. While in MIPO technique less mal-alignment reduction could be achieved but with more infection problems and slower rate of union. | ||||
