Abstract | ||
Background: Empowerment should be embraced as an innovative approach that has a significant role in the recovery of patients suffering from schizophrenia that goes beyond symptom control and thus reduces their feelings of helplessness. Aim: The objective of the current research was to evaluate the effect of empowerment program on recovery and helplessness among patients with schizophrenia. Research design: The study' s aim was achieved through utilizing a pre-posttest quasi-experimental research design. Sample: Fifty schizophrenic patients at Minia Hospital for Mental Health and addiction treatment were selected as a purposeful sample. Tools: Personal and clinical data questionnaire, Recovery Assessment Scale, and Learned Helplessness Scale (LHS) were utilized. Results: Findings proved high statistically significant differences in the total scores of recovery and helplessness scales before and after program implementation. Conclusion: Empowerment program revealed significant effect on boosting recovery and reducing helplessness through a variety of practical intervention and coping strategies.
