Abstract | ||||
This research discussed the application of geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies in order to study the impact of marine constructions and coastal projects on geomorphological changes in the coast of Jeddah between 1973 and 2018. The research included an analysis of topographical maps, approved regulatory schemes, the satellite images of the type + Landsat 7 ETM and the geometric and radiometric correction of them, and divided the coast of the area under study into twelve sectors. The areas of spatial change were calculated: eroding (cutting) and depositing (backfilling) in each sector, whether resulting from human or natural action. The study also discussed the identification of the spatial characteristics of projects and other patterns of human intervention on changing the geomorphodynamics of the coastline and the extent of ecological balance between the human factor’s utilization of natural resources to meet the needs of population pressure while preserving them and achieving sustainable development goals. The study identified current and potential problems resulting from human interventions and contributed solutions to them. | ||||
