Abstract | ||||
The presence of synthetic dyes in wastewater is a great problem as they are relatively stable and most of them are carcinogenic. Conventional methods for dye removal are time-consuming and may leave unwanted wastes. The removal of dyes from water needs a powerful and effective treatment strategy. The application of advanced oxidation methods (AOPs) has proven an excellent efficiency as it converts the organic pollutant to carbon dioxide and water. Acid Red 151 (AR151) is an azo dye applied to polyamide, silk, wool and wool fabric dyeing. It is also used for polyamide plastic shading. Some strong oxidizing agents including H2O2 and O3 were used to remove AR151 dye from aqueous medium in absence and presence of UV radiation. Fenton and photo-Fenton reagents were also applied. Different parameters controlling color disappearance were studied and optimized for all cases. The most effective system is UV/O3/H2O2 which cause a complete removal of the dye in few minutes. | ||||
