Abstract | ||||
In this study, Poly vinyl Pyrrolidone was prepared then followed by quaternization reaction with different alkyl halides to obtain Ionic Liquids. The chemical structures of the prepared compounds were confirmed by IR, 1HNMR and GPC. Poly Vinyl Pyrrolidone and Ionic Liquids have been investigated as corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in 1 M HCl solution using different techniques such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic Polarization. The thermodynamic parameters (ΔGºads, ΔH* and ΔS*) were evaluated. The film formation from corrosion product on the steel surface was confirmed by SEM and EDX techniques. The results show that these compounds act as efficient inhibitors for carbon steel in 1 M HCl solution | ||||
