| Abstract | ||
| Background: International Labor Organization showed that the construction industry is the most hazardous and accident-prone occupation in the world in which construction workers face wide variety of occupational hazards and fatality risks due to a lack of knowledge, human behavior and poor safety management. Aim: This study was carried out to assess occupational hazard’s knowledge and practices of construction workers regarding utilization of personal protective equipment s at Suez Canal University. Setting: The study was conducted at two areas include Faculty of Computing and Information, and Institute of Information Technology at Suez Canal University. Design: A descriptive design was utilized. Sample: convenience sampling from selected areas, sample size was (203).Tools: data was collected using two tools, Tool I: Structured Interview Questionnaire: divided into two parts namely: demographic data, and knowledge assessment sheet, Tool II: Observation checklist: utilization of personal protective equipment. Results: This study revealed that 81.4% of construction workers had poor knowledge about occupational hazards and 91.1% had unsatisfactory practices regarding personal protective equipment s. Furthermore, there was a statistically significant relation between total knowledge of hazards and total practices of protective equipment s. Conclusions: This study concluded that most of the construction workers had poor knowledge about occupational health hazards; most of the workers had unsatisfactory practice for wearing personal protective equipment s. Recommendations: Developing health educational program to raise construction worker’s awareness and knowledge about occupational hazards, and the proper use of personal protective equipment s. | ||
