Abstract | ||||
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS). It is the 2nd most common cause of non -traumatic disability in young adults after trauma . MS is two times more common in females than males and its onset is usually at young ages, namely around 30 years of age. Objectives: This work aims to evaluate Socio-demographic features and clinical characteristics in newly diagnosed Multiple Sclerosis patients in MS Clinic in Minia university hospitals. Methods : We collected Socio-demographic characteristics of newly diagnosed Multiple Sclerosis patients coming to Minia university hospitals within 6 months duration . Results: Thirty one patients fulfilled the inclusion criteria during the study period 25 females and 6 males , there is no statistically different between male and female cases as regard age, education and occupation but the female gender is the most predominant in the study (80.6%) and mean age is 29 .As regard clinical presentation: nearly two third of cases had motor attack (64.5%) then 42% of cases had cerebellar, the same percentage for visual attacks, less than one fourth (22.5%) had sphincteric attacks while small percentage had brain stem attack (9.6%) Conclusion: Multiple sclerosis is one of the most prevalent neurological disorder. It is more common in younger female and there is no special socio –demographic features. | ||||
