Abstract | ||||
Climate change is possibly the most pressing environmental threat of our time, with its impacts cascading across the globe and affecting all aspects of life, including flora and fauna. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of climate change's negative impacts on terrestrial and marine ecosystems, highlighting key areas of concern and potential consequences. Rising temperatures, altered precipitation patterns, and extreme weather events have several negative impacts on terrestrial ecosystems and shifts in species distribution and range. in addition to changes in plant phenology and productivity and increased vulnerability to disease and invasive species. In marine ecosystems, increased atmospheric CO2 and water temperature lead to ocean acidification, coral bleaching, and reef degradation. Moreover, deoxygenation, sea level rise, and changes in fish distribution and abundance. The negative impacts of climate change on flora and fauna have significant consequences for human well-being. Habitat loss and species extinction threaten biodiversity, food security, and ecosystem services like water purification and carbon sequestration. Additionally, climate change-induced disruptions to marine ecosystems can impact coastal communities that rely on fisheries and tourism for their livelihoods. Understanding the negative impacts of climate change on flora and fauna is crucial for developing effective mitigation and adaptation strategies. This includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions, investing in renewable energy sources, protecting, and restoring natural habitats, and implementing sustainable land and water management practices. By acting now, we can protect our planet's biodiversity and ensure a healthy future for all living things. | ||||
