Abstract | ||||
Several models were developed to use the conventional wireline logs for calculating the total organic carbon content (TOC) and evaluating the thermal maturity of the source rock. Application of these models for the Duwi Formation, southern Gulf of Suez, Egypt, is the purpose of this paper. Gamma ray, density, sonic, resistivity and neutron are the commonly used wireline logs to identify and quantify source rock. The obtained results compared to the Rock –Eval pyrolysis show that two models can be applied in the study area because most of the models are empirical and their validation takes place under certain conditions. The Duwi Formation represents a very good source rock capable of generating significant amounts of hydrocarbon. The kerogen is oil – prone type II, waxy sapropel related to marine plankton deposited under reducing conditions. | ||||
