Abstract | ||||
Background: Helicobacter pylori is a spiral-shaped bacterium that grows in the digestive tract with high incidence during childhood especially in developing countries . Aim: To study the clinical presentation and diagnosis of Helicopacter pylori in children . Methods: our study includes 150 children whose ages ranged between 5-15 years, diagnosed as having H pylori infection based on histopathology of their gastric biopsy specimens. Results: Mean age of patients was 8.21±3.1 years. Nearly half of them (42.7%) were males. Clinical presentation included dyspepsia was present in all patients (100%),vomiting was present in 72%of patients ,while hematemesis occurred in 16.7% of patients . Mean Hemoglobin was (Hb) 10.45±1.3 (mean ± SD) gm/dl Range: (6-5.13.6 gm / dl), The most common endoscopic finding was gastric nodularity (98.7%) followed by gastric erosions (46%). None of included children had gastric or duodenal ulcers. Conclusion: H. pylori infection represents the cause of multiple gastrointestinal diseases, ranging from chronic active gastritis without clinical symptoms to peptic ulceration, | ||||
