Abstract | ||||
Background: L. monocytogenes associated infections also known as ‘Listeriosis’ has identified one of the serious foodborne illness which especially affects individuals with a weakened immune system. To strengthen the regulation of pathogen population in food commodities, food safety education and its awareness to food traders and handlers, regular disease follow-up, and early examination of reported cases are several important and effective strategies to control listeriosis. Beside these all, the precise utilization of antimicrobials also have serious impact on controlling the L. monocytogenes infections. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global phenomenon. The arbitrary utilization of antimicrobial stuffs has promoted the rise of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and consequently multidrug resistance (MDR) strains of the pathogen. Such development of AMR among L. monocytogenes has made the treatment of listerial infections more complex certainly. For this purpose, monitoring and surveillance of AMR profile of the pathogen is key to develop the successful empirical treatment against L. monocytogenes associated infections in future. This review chapter is an effort to summarize information on AMR of L. monocytogenes isolated from possible source of food commodities globally. | ||||
