Abstract | ||||
Due to the distance from sources of surface water, several villages have had to dig wells to meet their irrigation and drinking water needs. The goal of the current study was to assess groundwater quality for irrigation in a few villages west of Mosul. To achieve this, five wells were selected for analysis. Water samples were examined in a laboratory for the following variables: electrical conductivity (EC), the presence of positive and negative ions, residual sodium carbonate (RSC), percentage of sodium (%Na), sodium absorption rate (SAR), potential salinity (PS), permeability index (PI), and Kelly ratio (KR). The results indicated that some well samples had high salt concentrations, with the highest reaching 1802µS/ cm. However, other parameters such as %Na, SAR, KR, PI, and PS were within acceptable ranges for irrigation. | ||||
