Abstract | ||||
Lanthanum and cerium are two members of the rare earth elements which are increasingly used in industry applications. The present study aims to evaluate the physiological effects of lanthanum (La) ions and cerium (Ce) in a nano form separately or in combination with the hepato-renal system. Animals grouped in four groups as control group (G1), Ce-NPs group (G2) ingested by stomach tube with Ce-NPs 35 mg/kg bw, La group (G3) were intraperitoneally injected with LaCl3 53 mg/kg and Ce-NPs-La group (G4). Results showed that the ability of lanthanum and cerium to be absorbed and distributed then accumulated in the different body organs. Additionally, Ce-NPs can scavenge lanthanum ions which is conferment by the FTIR. Ce-NPs showed a general non-significant change in the physiological parameters of Glu, T. Bili., liver enzymes (AST, ALT, ALP) Protein, albumin, kidney function (urea, creatinine. Uric acid) cholesterol and triglycerides in addition to a significant decrease in MDA and significant increase in GSH. On the other hand, lanthanum administration showed a hazard effect on physiological parameters with meaningful change in their values versus control. Accordingly, the antioxidant and scavenging properties of Ce-NPs, was able to attenuate the La hazards effect in Ce-NPs-La group. | ||||
