Abstract | ||||
Background: Gynecomastia (GM) is a relatively common disorder. Its causes range from benign physiological processes to rare neoplasms. This study aimed to compare between using Harmonic scalpel versus Electrocautery in surgical management of gynecomastia regarding time of operation, wound healing, wound complications, time of drainage, pain after surgery, amount of drainage (seroma formation), ,blood loss duration of surgery, and time to return to work after surgical treatment. Methods: prospective randomized clinical study included 50 patients with gynecomastia. Patients were divided randomly into two equal groups: Group1: patients, done by using Harmonic scalpel in operation, Group 2: done by using Electrocautery in operation. Complete medical history, full clinical examination and preoperative investigations: including CBC, LFT, KFT, coagulation profile, RBG and ECG, ultrasound to confirm gynecomastia. Results: the mean operative time among Harmonic groups was 71.62 minutes ± 19.6 SD and among Electro-cautery group was 92.71 minutes ±24.21 SD. Intra-operative blood loss was more among Electro-cautery group 28.9 mL ± 13.5 SD in comparison to 21.7 mL ± 7.11 SD, so there was a statistically significant difference (P | ||||
