Abstract | ||||
The research aimed to reveal the relationship between obesity and some psychological and environmental variables in a sample of young men and women. The researchers used the descriptive comparative correlational approach. The research sample consisted of a group of young men and women suffering from obesity. The research tools included a scale of psychological and environmental variables associated with obesity (prepared by the researchers) and a medically approved body mass index. The results showed a statistically significant relationship between obesity and some psychological variables (achievement motivation, psychological stress and social withdrawal), while there was no clear relationship between obesity and some environmental variables (family environment and work environment). The results also indicated differences in the level of obesity between males and females and in psychological variables according to social status, and no differences according to age and educational qualification. The research recommended increasing health awareness and healthy nutrition and encouraging positive psychological interventions. | ||||
