| Abstract | ||||
| Abstract: Background: The prevalence of visual impairment continues to rise, despite efforts to reduce it. The burden of disease negatively impacts the quality of life, education opportunities, and psychological status in various communities. Henceforth, the purpose of the study was to assess the psychological distress among children with visual impirments. Design: A descriptive-correlational design was utilized. Settings: The study was conducted at El-Nour School for children with visual impairment, Shebin El-Kom, Menoufia Governorate. Sample: A consecutive sample of sixty children with visual impairments were enrolled in this study. Instruments: A structured interview questionnaire and depression, anxiety, and stress scales were used. Results: The findings of the study revealed that more than two thirds of the studied children had severe depression, 18, 3% of the studied children had mild depression. About, more than half of the studied children had severe anxiety and the minority had mild anxiety. Also more than half of them had severe stress and one third of them had moderate stress. Conclusion: About more than two thirds of the studied children had severe depression. Also more than, half of them had severe anxiety and severe stress. Recommendations: The need for depression, anxiety and stress screening in children with visual impairment. Also, mothers need educational programs to help them to deal effectively with their children having visual impairment. | ||||
