Abstract | ||||
Abstract Background: The most prevalent cause of vision impairment and potential cause of blindness is trachoma-induced corneal opacities. These may result from either a chronic infection of the conjunctiva or from cicatricial entropion and trichiasis, which cause the lashes to constantly brush against the cornea. Subjects and Methods: It was a cross sectional study that included patients having chronic trachoma presenting by corneal opacity associated with eyelid changes between march to September 2022. Aim of the study: to study the eyelid changes in trachoma patients presenting by corneal opacity Results: 50 patients were included in the study ,40% of the patients suffered from trichiasis in the right eye, while 40% of the patients suffered from trichiasis in the left eye. Thirty eight percent of the patients suffered from entropion in the right eye, while 42% of the patients suffered from entropion in the left. Conclusion: Patients with trachoma often have eyelid abnormalities that contribute to corneal opacity; thus, surgical correction of entropion and trichiasis should be considered.
