| Abstract | ||||
| يُعد تاريخ أرامكو فترة من أهم فترات التاريخ المعاصر للمملكة السعودية، إذ إن منحها امتيازًا للتنقيب عن النفط يعدّه بعض المؤرخين أهم حدث بعد توحيد المملكة على يد المؤسس عبد العزيز بن سعود. ولقد فرضت الأزمة الاقتصادية العالمية في أوائل الثلاثينيات، علاوة على كوارث الحرب العالمية الأولى، المزيد من الضغوط على المملكة العربية السعودية. في الوقت نفسه كانت المملكة تعاني نقصًا في الموارد الاقتصادية نتيجة للثورات الداخلية، مما أجبر البلاد على طلب القروض من الخارج. لقد أجبرت هذه الأزمة المالية الملك عبد العزيز على التفكير بعمق في البحث عن مساعدة حقيقية لاستغلال الثروات المخفية في أرضه، والتي لم يكن بإمكانه تحقيقها بوسائله الخاصة، لهذا السبب، في عام 1931م، كان الملك في موضع ترحيب لأي شخص يعرض عليه مليون جنيه إسترليني، وسيحظى بكل التنازلات في بلد ابن سعود، وذلك على حد قول "جون فليبي John Philippi " في كتابه "مغامرات النفط العربي". ولقد حظيت الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية عن طريق شركاتها النفطية على هذا الامتياز. وهذه الدراسة تبرز أثر النفط في مجمل العلاقات السعودية الأمريكية، وأهمية كل منهما للآخر. كما يبرز البحث أهمية النفط كأحد أهم المجالات التي ينشط فيها الاستعمار–لاسيما استعمار القرن العشرين، وما يرتبط به من اتفاقات مجحفة وممارسات الرأسمال الاحتكاري النفطي الأجنبي بحق البلدان المالكة له. وتخلص الدراسة إلى بلورة العلاقات الاستراتيجية الثنائية السعودية – الأمريكية والتي يمكن اختزالها في المعادلة التالية: النفط مقابل الحماية. وما يجب فعله- كتحدي مستقبلي- على العرب عامة والسعودية خاصة تجاه تنمية مواردهم والاستفادة القصوى منها، والبحث عن بدائل أخرى يمكن أن تحكم العلاقات الثنائية إذا ما نفد البترول، بشكل يعزز استقلالها الاقتصادي والسياسي بعيدًا عن النفط. The history of Aramco represents one of the most significant periods in the modern history of Saudi Arabia. Some historians consider granting the company the concession to explore for oil to be the most important event after the unification of the Kingdom by its founder, Abdulaziz bin Saud. The global economic crisis of the early 1930s, compounded by the aftermath of World War I, placed immense pressure on Saudi Arabia. At the same time, the Kingdom was grappling with a shortage of economic resources due to internal uprisings, which forced the country to seek foreign loans. This financial crisis compelled King Abdulaziz to deeply consider finding real assistance to exploit the hidden wealth beneath his land—resources he could not harness with his own means. For this reason, in 1931, the King was open to any individual offering him one million British pounds, who, in return, would be granted all concessions within Ibn Saud’s territory. This sentiment was described by John Philby in his book Adventures in Arabian Oil. Ultimately, the United States, through its oil companies, secured this concession. This study highlights the impact of oil on the entirety of Saudi-American relations and underscores the importance of each party to the other. Additionally, it examines the significance of oil as one of the key areas of activity for colonialism—particularly 20th-century colonialism—and the associated unfair agreements and monopolistic practices by foreign oil capital at the expense of resource-owning nations. The study concludes by crystallizing the strategic bilateral relationship between Saudi Arabia and the United States, which can be summarized in the following equation: oil in exchange for protection. It also highlights a future challenge for Arabs in general, and Saudi Arabia in particular, to focus on developing their resources, maximizing their benefits, and exploring alternative frameworks for bilateral relations in the event of oil depletion. This would strengthen their economic and political independence, moving away from reliance on oil. | ||||
