| Abstract | ||||
| This study evaluates the roles of NEAZDP program on the livelihood capital assets, survival strategies, and environmental engagement of beneficiary, spill-over, and control groups in a rural setting of Nigeria’s Yobe State. Using a multi-stage sampling technique, a total of 396 respondents spread across the beneficiary and non-beneficiary communities were randomly selected. Besides, using inferential statistics, households’ updated data elicited through a well-structured questionnaire complemented with an interview schedule were synthesized for valid insights into the goals of the study. Results indicate that crop production is the dominant livelihood activity across all groups, with program beneficiaries also benefiting from high levels of natural, financial, and social capital assets, essential for their resilience and livelihood strategies. In contrast, the control group exhibits greater vulnerability, with poorer asset statuses and a reliance on coping strategies. Notably, program beneficiaries are more inclined toward adaptive survival strategies and demonstrate a higher likelihood of participating in collective pro-environmental activities, driven by enhanced behavioral control and social identity fostered by NEAZDP. The spill-over group shows promising outcomes with a preference for accumulation strategies, suggesting a positive, though indirect program impact. However, limited engagement in pro-environmental activities among non-beneficiaries points to a need for broader outreach. The findings highlight NEAZDP’s role in strengthening livelihood resilience and promoting sustainable environmental practices, underscoring the need for expanded interventions to support adaptive livelihoods and environmental goals across all community groups. | ||||
