Abstract | ||||
Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) technology has been widely deployed in data communication due to its flexibility, convenience, affordability and ubiquity. Higher institutions have adopted wireless networks to foster learning and provide access to educational resources and other services. However, WLAN technologies such as WEP and WPA/WPA2 are susceptible to vulnerabilities such as denial of service and brute force attacks. This paper aims to investigate the awareness, effectiveness, and attitude of users towards WLAN Security in some Federal Universities in Southern Nigeria. Questionnaires were administered to determine WLAN users' levels of awareness and attitude. The findings showed that across the universities covered by the study, WLAN is the dominant network technology and there exists a significant relationship between the attitude towards network security and the perception of its effectiveness. Hence, there is dire need to enhance the level of awareness and comprehension regarding WLAN security among network users by implementing various measures in order to ensure the safety and security of network systems and protect against potential cyber threats. | ||||
