Abstract | ||||
Abstract Background : Over the past few decades, climate change has gained international attention. In addition to having a variety of effects on the ecosystem and ecology, these climate changes also have a variety of effects on life on Earth. Even in healthy people, heat stress can cause acute kidney injury if it is severe it cause volume depletion. Acute renal damage is known to contribute to chronic kidney disease overall. Aim: Investigate the impact of climate change on the psychological status of patients with chronic kidney disease. Method: A descriptive correlational research design was used. The study was carried out at hemodialysis units at Assiut University Hospital. A purposive sample of (200) hemodialysis patients was included. Tools: Demographic and clinical data sheet, climate change anxiety scale, beck depression inventory II, Kessler Psychological Distress Scale. Results: The study finding clarified that, the majority of the studied sample (71.5%) had a low level of climate change anxiety. More than half (51.5%) of the studied sample experienced moderate to very high psychological distress. More than half (53.5%) of the studied sample had moderate to high level of depression. Conclusion: there was a highly significant difference between demographic data, age group and educational level with p – value ( 0.007, <0.001), and there was a positive correlation between Climate change anxiety , psychological distress and depression. Recommendation: Implement psycho- educational program for chronic kidney disease patients to manage psychological stress and depression. | ||||
