Abstract | ||
Transformers are one of the most vital and expensive components of electric power systems. Accordingly, transformer failures lead to high costs due to service interruption as well as required maintenance, replacement, or repair of the transformer. Therefore, in this paper, a three phase distribution transformer of 15 kV/400V with a rated power of 690 kVA is simulated considering magnetic and electric circuit interferences using COMSOL Multiphysics. The simulated model is verified using normal induced currents and voltages at the transformer rating. The secondary winding faults are simulated considering single, nine, and eighteen turns. Then, the circulating currents are estimated for these cases. The magnetic field distribution in the transformer is estimated under normal and winding faults. Simulation results are analyzed using MATLAB software to investigate symmetrical components for different fault locations. The arcing as an incipient fault is modeled using an arcing voltage as a square wave. The impact of arcing faults is investigated. | ||
