Abstract | ||||
Nephrotoxicity is defining as rapid deterioration in the kidney function due to toxic effect of medications and chemicals. For that, this study was carried out to investigate the treatment effects of corn silk at four levels (2.5%, 5%, 10 and 15%) on kidney functions, liver enzymes, some serum minerals, blood glucose and antioxidants enzymes of nephrotoxicity rats. Thirty-six adult male healthy albino rats (Sprague-Dawley strain) were divided into six groups, the first group was a negative control group while the other five groups were injected by gentamicin to induce nephrotoxicity, one of them was a positive group, the other groups were fed on basal diet containing tested corn silk levels powder for 28 days. the obtained results showed that the corn silk had high content of carbohydrates, dietary fiber, protein, potassium calcium and magnesium while it had low content of fat and moisture. The levels of AST, ALT, ALP, GGT, urea, uric acid, creatinine, MDA, and blood glucose were significantly decreased in the nephritic corn silk treated groups and significantly increasing in the levels of Tp, Alb, GPX, SOD, CAT, GSTs, and TAC. Regarding levels of K and P decreased while levels of Na and Ca increased in nephritic treated groups especially at 15%. So that it was concluded that corn silk powder has many vital compounds which have great effectiveness in protecting and treating kidney diseases. | ||||
