Abstract | ||||
Background: Investigate the level of serum insulin growth factor in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease compared with healthy subjects. Methods: The current study included two hundred and seven participants, which divided into 100 were diagnosed as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and 107 healthy participants, which were collected from National Hepatology and Tropical Medicine Research Institute, Egypt. All participants subjected to measure the levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), total bilirubin, albumin, creatinine, fasting blood glucose, Homa-IR, Triglycerides (T.G), Total cholesterol, High-density lipoprotein (HDL), and Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) were measured using Beckman 480 by auto analyzer biochemistry. In addition to insulin like growth factor-1(IGF), Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and fasting Insulin level were done by Elisa technique according to manufacturer instruction. Results: The current study showed that there was significant increase in the body mass index, fasting blood glucose, Homa IR, ALT, AST, GGT, HDL , LDL, albumin and total bilirubin in NAFLD group compared to control group (P ≤ 0.000), while there was significant decrease in the fasting insulin level, total cholesterol, triglycerides ,and creatinine in NAFLD group compared to control group (P > 0.05). As a regard of interleukin-6 and insulin growth factor there was significant increase in the mean values in NAFLD group compared to control group. Conclusion: The obtained findings suggested that there was negative correlation between insulin like growth hormone levels, body mass index and interleukin-6. Serum levels of insulin like growth factor were low in non-alcoholic fatty liver compared to control group. | ||||
