Abstract | ||||
Background : Early recognition of novel coronavirus 2019 pneumonia patients who may progress to severely ill is greatly important as it aids in delivery of optimal treatment as well as to optimize usage of resources.Lung ultrasound (LUS) could provide a valuable bedside method for both diagnosis & follow up of covid -19 patients. Methods: The current prospective cohort study was conducted in the Ward and Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) of Zagazig Chest Hospital ; during the period from June 2022 to June 2023 , on 60 cases ; Clinical, laboratory, radiologically and PCR-confirmed moderate and severe covid 19 patients who needed admission to Zagazig chest hospital according to the national authority of health and prevention guidelines .CT and ultrasound of chest were done at admission (stage 1)and repeated at day 9 (stage 2) and follow up outcome from day 9 to day 13. Results : Baseline moderate severity was found in 58.3% of studied patients. Baseline chest US findings ,revealed that the mean of total lung score was 26.98±6.9 .Regarding chest US findings in stage 2 ; total score of lung zone range was 28.01±6.6..There was statistical significant decrease in areation score from group A to group C. Conclusions: Bedside US substitute chest CT as a non invasive ,low cost ,rapid, accurate bedside maneuver for both diagnosis and assessment of severity of covid 19 pneumonia as well as sequalae of infection. Moreover integration of LUS finding with history, clinical and laboratory findings would be helpful in proper management . | ||||
