Abstract | ||||
Abstract: Many women suffer from uterine myomas during their life, however almost 75% are asymptomatic. When these myomas become symptomatic, management should be done. Management include many options as medical treatment or surgery or even uterine artery embolization. Myomectomy either via abdominal or laparoscopic approach is considered a suitable procedure in women wishing to preserve their fertility. Objective: To compare between laparoscopic myomectomy and abdominal myomectomy regarding intra-operative and post-operative outcomes. Study design and setting: A prospective, randomized and comparative study carried out in obstetrics and gynecology department, Faculty of medicine, Minia University, Egypt. Patient and method: A total of hundred and twenty patients were recruited in this study; 60 of them underwent laparoscopic myomectomy and the other 60 underwent conventional abdominal myomectomy. Various parameters were reported in the study including estimated blood loss, operative time, duration of hospital stay and post-operative complications. Results: Laparoscopic myomectomy was found to be associated with less blood loss, less need for blood transfusion, shorter hospital stay, lower incidence of post-operative complications but associated with longer operative duration. | ||||
