Abstract | ||||
Blending different textile fibers is made to obtain the optimum properties from each fiber and include them in the final blended yarns. Generally, blending is done for aesthetic, economic, and functional considerations. The objective of this research is to investigate the quality characteristics of ring-spun yarns blended from wool, polyester and lycra fibrers. Throughout this study, twelve ring-spun blended yarn samples were produced. Of these, six yarn samples were spun with three counts, namely 20, 30, and 40 Nm, respectively, each with two blending ratios of wool and polyester fibers and with Lycra continuous filaments in the core. The remaining spun yarn samples were produced with the same yarn counts, with the same blending ratios, and without using Lycra continuous filament in the core. Advanced statistical analysis was used to assess the significant influence of the studied parameters on the physical and mechanical properties of the blended ring-spun yarns, namely, ( CVM), imperfections, hairiness index, breaking load, and breaking elongation. The findings of this study revealed that most of the blended yarn characteristics were significantly affected by the blending ratio and incorporation of the Lycra continuous filament in the core of the concerned blended yarns In the staple manufacturing process, blending of textile fibers is conducted to get the required characteristics in the final product and is carried out at various steps of yarn manufacturing, such as fiber opening and cleaning, carding, drawing, roving, and spinning [1]. Using blending technology, yarn manufacturers can spin yarns with qualities from many fibres, such as water absorption and comfort from one component and easy care from another [2-6]. Various blending parameters control the final characteristics of the blended yarns, one of which is the blending ratio between different blended fibers that affects not only the aesthetic character of the final product but also the performance of the blending process itself [7]. Blending uniformity of component fiber in the final blended yarn is another crucial factor that affects the performance of the blended yarns and the final product. Numerous blended yarns have been spun lately, for instance, polyester/cotton, jute/cotton, cotton/flax, polyester/modal, polyester/flax, polyester/viscose, cotton/acrylic, and others. Because of its extraordinary properties, polyester is considered one of the most widely used synthetic fibers that can be used alone or in combination with other natural or man-made fibers. | ||||
