Abstract | ||
Background: A straightforward, precise, rapid, sensitive, and accurate spectrophotometric method has been developed for the estimation of metronidazole (MTZ) in pure, tablet, and super dosage forms. Methods: This method involves the reduction of metronidazole using zinc powder and 5N HCl at room temperature in methanol. Results: The resulting amine is utilized in the procedure. The method is based on the oxidation coupling with trifluoperazine hydrochloride, leading to the formation of an orange-red chromogen that exhibits an absorption maximum at 500 nm, with an apparent molar absorptivity of 2.6763 x 103 (L m-1 cm-1), and adheres to Beer’s law within a concentration range of 1-30 μg/ml. The assay results align well with the label claim. Conclusions: The proposed method is characterized by its simplicity, sensitivity, precision, accuracy, speed, and suitability for routine quality control. | ||
