Abstract | ||||
Abstract Introduction: Due to high probability of spontaneous recovery of frozen shoulder, conservative management is advised including hydrodilatation and manipulation under general anaesthesia (MUA). This study aimed to compare hydrodilatation and MUA in treatment of frozen shoulders. Patients and methods: This prospective randomized double-blind controlled clinical study was carried out on 42 patients aged ≥ 18 years old, both sexes, at stage 2 primary adhesive capsulitis, global loss of active and passive movement, internal rotation patients cannot reach the level of fifth number vertebrae or less. Patients were randomly divided into two equal groups: Group A: underwent hydrodilatation in operation room with C. Arm and Group B: underwent manipulation in operation room using short lever arm. Results: There was a negative correlation between age and weight, BMI, pain (VAS), and joint movements (initial and follow-ups), as well as between diabetes mellitus and BMI, pain, and initial joint movements (P < 0.05). However, age, BMI, and diabetes showed no correlation with sex, height, symptom duration, affected side, Constant-Murley score, or satisfaction. Conclusions: In frozen shoulder patients, hydro dilatation under general anesthesia was more effective than MUA as it was associated with lower VAS. However, ROM and CMS were significantly higher in MUA group. | ||||
