Abstract | ||||
The current study aimed to assess the impact of vitamin C and E-selenium supplementation on fertility of Egyptian bucks, including semen picture and testicular biometry during winter season. The experiment was applied on 15 Egyptian Baladi goat bucks. The experimental animals were divided into two groups; treatment group (n=10): daily supplemented with 180 mg/kg of vitamin C, 400 IU of vitamin E, and 500 µg of selenium for 30 successive days, and control group (n=5). Semen picture and testicular biometry were evaluated for both treated and control groups. Semen ejaculates, blood samples and testicular measurements were obtained at 4 time points along the experiment period; D0, D15, D30 and D45. Semen samples were assessed for gross and microscopic semen parameters. Blood samples were used for evaluation of malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Testicular biometry was also obtained at the same time-points before semen collection. The results demonstrated no significant differences between the two groups either in the examined semen gross parameters or in the testicular biometric measurements but there were significant differences concerning the semen microscopic parameters. sperm motility and concentration showed significant increase in D30 and D45 than D0. Sperm vitality showed significant increase in D45 (56.59%) than D0 (36.31%). Total sperm abnormalities (%) was significantly lower in the treated group at D45 (15.50 %) than control group at D45 (26.03 %). A highly significant decrease in the MDA (µmol/L) levels was recorded in the treated group at D45 (4.51 µmol/L) and D30 (5.06 µmol/L) in compared to D0 (15.23 µmol/L). | ||||
