Abstract | ||||
Background: The use of nasal continuous positive airway pressure is increasing as a means of respiratory support in many premature neonates. So, the presence of nasal skin breakdown may be seen as a complication. Aim: to assess the nursing care regarding prevention of nasal breakdown in neonates during using non invasive continuous positive airway pressure. Setting: this study was conducted at Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Zagazig General Hospital, which is affiliated to the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population. Subject: A purposive sample composed of 30 neonatal nurses. Tools: two tools were used. Tool one: A Structured interviewing questionnaire sheet. Tool two: Observational checklist to assess the neonatal nurses practices. Results: The study result revealed that, 16.7% of the studied neonatal nurses had satisfactory total score level of knowledge and 73.3% of the studied neonatal nurses had competent practices regarding care of neonate connected with non invasive continuous positive airway pressure .Conclusion: there was statistically significant positive correlations between total score level of knowledge and total score level of practices of the studied neonatal nurses. Recommendation: Provision of continuous education program for all neonatal nurses regarding prevention of nasal breakdown in neonates during using non invasive continuous positive air way pressure. | ||||
