Abstract | ||||
The objective of this research paper is to highlight the identity crisis that Muslims suffered during the period following the September 11 attacks in the United States in 2001, through the narration written by the narrator Ali Eteraz in his novel The Native Believer (2016). The significance of the study is to discuss the identity crisis from Several important aspects, including dealing with the concept of the other, the crisis of identity and gender according to the narrator Ali Eteraz in his novel The Native Believer (2016), and the impact of this on the development of his relationship with Islam, and finally Islamic societies vs. Intellectuals and their impact on the identity of Muslims in the novel. The researcher followed the descriptive analytical method because it is appropriate to the nature of literary and human studies. The study researcher found that the narrator felt pain of being perceived contrary to how he conceived of himself in thoughts as he mentioned in the novel. Even if he did not believe in Islam or practice the religion, simply his name that refers he is a Muslim was a serious problem or him in so many situations. One can conclude that his name reflected the identity crisis. His name was a big challenge after the attacks of September 11th since it caused him a great embarrassment. Eteraz did not make the reader feel the absence of guilt and shame despite of his weird look and name The prejudice that Muslim can’t be trusted | ||||
