Abstract | ||||
Background: Managing post-operative endodontic pain is crucial for patient satisfaction and comfort in everyday practice. Aim of the study: To assess post-operative discomfort following endodontic retreatment using Mtwo R files alone or Mtwo R files in conjunction with XP-endo Finisher. Materials and Methods: This study comprised a prospective double-blinded parallel randomised clinical trial involving 50 patients necessitating root canal retreatment. Patients were partitioned into two groups: group 1 retreatment with Mtwo R files, group 2 retreatment with Mtwo R files followed by Xp-endo Finisher file. Post-operative pain levels were evaluated at 24,48,72 hours and 7 days after the removal of the obturation material. The assessment of pain was done through clinical examination, post-operative written questionnaire and the use of Defence and Veterans Pain Rating Scale (DVPRS). Statistical analysis and Comparisons between the two groups, regarding posto-perative questionnaire results, DVPRS values, percussion and palpation were conducted using the Mann-Whitney U test and Pearson's Chi-Square test. The Friedman test was employed to assess change in post-operative pain across time intervals pursued by post hoc test with Bonferroni correction. Results: there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in regards to post-operative discomfort assessment clinically, according to the DVPRS and the patient`s questionnaire at 24,48,72 hours and 7 days following removal of the obturation material. Conclusions: The addition of the XP-endo Finisher file following the use of Mtwo R files during endodontic retreatment did not affect post-operative pain. | ||||
