Abstract | ||||
Interest in the production of polymers with antibacterial properties is growing. In this study, a novel triazolyl aldehyde-based graftable starch was developed, and its biological activity was determined. The approach requires several steps, starting with the starch and tosyl chloride in pyridine to produce compound 2. The treatment of compound 2 with sodium azide created compound 3, containing an azide residue. Separately, compound 4 is formed by the reaction of 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde with propargyl chloride. The target product, the triazolyl aldehyde-based starch compound 5, was afforded through click chemistry by incorporating 3 and 4. All compounds were characterized using spectroscopic instruments. Finally, the antibacterial activity of grafted polymer 5 against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli was studied. | ||||
