Abstract Background: Excessive daytime sleepiness is defined as the inability to keep awake during the major waking day time, lead to unintentional pauses of sleepiness. ILD patients may complain from excessive daytime sleepiness that could impair their quality of life. Objectives: Our study was conducted to evaluate the prevalence of excessive daytime sleepiness among ILD patients. Patients and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on 100 (ILD) patients who attended Aswan University Hospital during the period between January 2023 and May 2024; aged from 33 to 77 years old of both sexes. All patients were subjected to medical history taking, spirometry and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (which is the gold standard for assessment of daytime sleepiness). Results: our study revealed that 38% of the ILD patients had excessive daytime sleepiness (ESS > 10) and the mean Epworth Sleepiness (ESS) of the patients was 6.5± 4.2. There was a significant negative correlation between the ESS and each of FVC (r = -0.395 and P value = 0.03) and FEV1 (r= -0.320 and P value= 0.02) Conclusions: Excessive daytime sleepiness is prevalent among ILD patients with a prevalence of 38% that could affect their daily performance and quality of life. | ||||
