Abstract | ||
Abstract Objectives: The current study aimed to assess the effect of fiber-reinforced composite resin (FRCR) space maintainer modified with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on lactobacillus count in children's oral cavities. Subjects and methods: A sample of 30 patients with prematurely extracted first primary molars aged between 4 and 9 years from both genders were allocated and randomly divided into two equal groups (n = 15). Group I children were treated with FRCR space maintainer without adding AgNPs (Control group), while group II (Test group) children were treated with FRCR space maintainer modified with AgNPs. The samples of saliva were collected from the children before and after 3 and 6 months of the bonded space maintainers for microbiological assessment of the lactobacillus colonies. Results: There was a significant difference in Lactobacillus levels between both groups at the 3-month and 6-month. Conclusion: Silver nanoparticles at 0.05% concentration can provide antimicrobial activity against Lactobacillus level in the oral cavity of children when added to the composition of fiber-reinforced composite space maintainer. | ||
