Abstract | ||||
Background: Assessment of nurses’ performance is a crucial method in family planning services to identify nurses' professional skills, improve their development, and encourage them toward higher fulfillment. On the other hand, assessment of clients' satisfaction aids in recognizing their experiences and problems as well as appraising the standard of health care service delivery. Therefore, enhancing the family planning nurses' quality of performance, influences women's satisfaction, resulting in greater and continuous service utilization as well as accomplishment of fertility goals, higher prevalence rate of contraception, and lower rate of fertility. Objective: This study aims to identify the relationship between the quality of family planning nurses' performance and women's satisfaction at Al-Amreya District in Alexandria governorate. Materials and Method: A descriptive, correlational research design was utilized at 3 family planning clinics in al-Amreya district in Alexandria, namely: General Al-Amreya Hospital, Child Care Unit and Family Medicine Center. All nurses (22), and a convenient sample of 400 women, were recruited from the previously mentioned settings. Three tools were utilized by the researcher to gather the required data: Tool one: Women's socio-demographic data, reproductive and family planning history structured interview schedule. Tool two: Modified nurses' performance observational checklist. Tool three: Women's satisfaction with the quality of family planning nurses' performance. Collection of data lasted 2 months, 2 days/week for nurses and 6 months, 4 days/week for women. Results: It was discovered that the relationship between quality of family planning nurses' performance and women's satisfaction was statistically significant (P=0.040) as well as it had strong and positive correlation (r=0.786). Whereas almost one-half (49.5%) of women were partially satisfied with fair performance of more than three-quarters (77.3%) of nurses. Nevertheless, slightly more than two-fifths (41%) of women were completely satisfied with good performance of less than one-fifth (18.2%) of nurses. However, 9.5% of women were dissatisfied with poor performance of 4.5% of nurses. Conclusion: the relationship between women's satisfaction and family planning nurses' performance was statistically significant as well as had strong and positive correlation. Recommendations: Continuous in-service training programs for family planning nurses should be designed and implemented by the responsible authorities. Appropriate health education should be given by family planning nurses to family planning clients to increase the awareness, and develop a favorable attitude. The same study should be replicated with larger samples and different geographical areas in Egypt. | ||||
