| Abstract | ||||
| - Objective: This study was aimed to compare between two different techniques of botulinum toxin-A injection on upper lip length after orthodontic treatment. - Materials and methods: Thirty four gummy smile patients underwent orthodontic treatment then divided randomly into two equal groups for botulinum toxin-A (BTX-A) injection. Group A received one BTX-A injection per side (Yonsei point). Group B received three injections of BTX-A per side. All patients were assessed at 2, 4, 12 and 24 weeks post-injection. - Results: Lip length was increased in both groups after 2, 4 weeks with significant increase in group B more than group A. Gradually decrease of lip length was observed in both groups and reached the former state at 24 weeks of follow up. - Conclusion: BTX-A injection is a safe, satisfying, and conservative modality for management of gummy smile as it increases the upper lip length. Multiple injections technique is more preferred than single point technique regarding gummy smile correction. Both techniques increase upper lip length especially during the first month of injection. | ||||
