Background: Academic advising (AA) process is pivotal for academic achievement and is essential for meeting faculty educational objectives. Within the Faculty of Nursing, there is a significant demand to establish an academic advising model to address the unique challenges and requirements of nursing educators and students. Aim: To develop an academic advising model using lean methodology. Settings: The study was conducted at the Faculty of Nursing, Alexandria University, Egypt. Subjects: A convenient sampling method, followed by stratified proportionate sampling, was used to select 32 academic advisors and 217 undergraduate nursing students. Tools: Five tools were used: Tool one, “Academic Advisors’ Perceptions, Problems, and Needs Questionnaire”, Tool two, “Academic Advisees’ Perceptions, Problems, and Needs Questionnaire”, Tool three, “Gemba Walk Tool”, Tool four, “Value Stream Map”, and tool five, “Map of the Ideal Academic Advising Process”. Results: The first part of the findings revealed many difficulties and challenges among advisors and advisees with many wastes of time, effort and resources. Accordingly, the proposed model was developed, and based on experts’ evaluation, it approved its efficiency and validity for guiding the academic advising process using lean methodology in the Faculty of Nursing. Conclusion: Developing a comprehensive educational model for academic advising using lean methodology is a crucial tool to integrate all components of academic advising with optimal benefits and support to the stakeholders at the Faculty of Nursing.
