Abstract | ||||
Background and aim: Trichomonas vaginalis is one of common STDs that is strongly associated with infertility. We aimed to screen prevalence of T. Vaginalis infection among infertile couples in Suez Canal region. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Dermatology, Venerology and Andrology department and clinic and Gynecology and Obstetrics department in Faculty of Medicine in Suez Canal University Hospital, including 70 infertile couple, and 70 control group couple. The data was collected through full medical history, clinical examination, laboratory investigations, cultured in tubes containing (CPLM). Results: 15 (21.4%) of males in the study group and 5 (7.1%) in the control group had Trichomoniasis, with statistically significant difference between that two groups (p =0.033), 17 (24.3%) of females in the study group and 7 (10.0%) in the control group had Trichomoniasis, with statistically significant difference between that two groups (p =0.025). Conclusion: Trichomnoasis is more prevalent among infertile couples compared to fertile couples and it should be considered for the etiology of the infertile male patients and female patients. | ||||
