Abstract | ||||
ABSTRACT Background: The comprehension and viewpoint of mothers about hearing loss and hearing screening are vital for the early detection and effective treatment of children hearing impairment. Aim: This research aimed to assess mothers' comprehension and viewpoints on infant hearing loss and the hearing screening procedure. Design: The research used a descriptive methodology. Setting: The study was conducted at the Maternity Center of Health in Beni-Bakheet village, Beni-Suef city. Sample: A purposive sample of 155 moms was obtained from the previously stated scenario. Tools: This research included two instruments for data collecting. The first instrument was a structured interview questionnaire split into two segments: one addressing the socio-demographic attributes of women, and the other evaluating their understanding of infant hearing loss and hearing screening. The second instrument assessed mothers' perceptions about neonatal auditory impairment and hearing assessments. Results: 42.6% of the mothers examined were aged between 18 and 25 years, with a mean age of 28.60±6.76 years. Furthermore, 35.5% and 34.2% of the sample exhibited adequate awareness of risk factors and warning signals for referral, respectively. Within the examined population, 89% demonstrated a favorable disposition towards the neonatal hearing screening test and hearing impairment. Conclusion: no substantial correlation existed between the mothers' perceptions of hearing loss, the newborn hearing screening test, and their comprehensive understanding of these subjects. Recommendations: The creation of public awareness campaigns must be taken into account in order to change mothers' knowledge about and attitudes around infant hearing loss as well as neonatal hearing screening . | ||||
